FERC Involvement In Southern’s South System Expansion III Project

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is the lead federal agency responsible for authorizing the South System Expansion III Project under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). On March 4, 2008, the FERC assigned pre-filing Docket No. PF08-13-000 to the South System Expansion III Project. Interested parties who wish to correspond with FERC about this project should refer to this docket number. Comments provided to the FERC under this process will be addressed by the FERC in its project evaluation. Persons may file comments with the FERC electronically through their website or they can mail them (send original and 14 copies ) to the following address:

FERC Filing

Southern Natural Gas Company (SNG) filed the original application for a certificate to construct the South System Expansion III project on December 15, 2008, and filed an amendment to that application on February 10, 2009. SNG received it’s FERC certificate for South System Expansion III on August 27, 2009, and filed its’ acceptance of that certificate on September 1, 2009.

On September 18, 2009, Southern filed an Implementation Plan for construction of its Plant McDonough Meter Station and Phase I warehouse yards, and requested authorization to begin construction at these locations. By letter order dated November 5, 2009, the Commission approved for Southern to commence construction at these locations.

On November 24, 2009, Southern filed an Implementation Plan for construction of its Phase I Pipeline facilities, and requested authorization to begin construction at these locations. By letter order dated January 21, 2010, the Commission approved for Southern to commence construction at these locations.
