Project Information

The New Home Natural Gas Storage Project will be developed in phases.  Phase 1 will consist of a single cavern capable of storing approximately 7.0 billion cubic feet of natural gas. The facility will be able to deliver approximately 700 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. The storage cavern will connect with SNG's existing underground pipeline system via a new nine mile pipeline.  Phase 2 will incorporate a second cavern in the same salt dome and will have the same storage and delivery capacities as the first.

SNG expects to file an application for this project with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in 2007 and will begin construction only after FERC has received public comments and reviewed and approved the project application. Once SNG receives FERC's approval and all other federal, state, and local regulatory approvals, cavern construction could begin in 2008. The company estimates the Phase 1 cavern to be in service by Spring 2011 and the Phase 2 cavern to be in service by early 2014.
