Essex-Middlesex Project Overview

Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company (Tennessee), a subsidiary of El Paso Corporation,
plans to build the Essex-Middlesex Project to serve the growing demand for natural
gas service in the New England area. The Essex-Middlesex Project involves the installation
of approximately 7.8 miles of new 24-inch
pipeline in Essex and Middlesex Counties,
Massachusetts. The project has the
potential to increase natural gas delivery
capacity in the area by 82,300 dekatherms
per day, which is enough capacity to power
more than 353,000 homes for a year.
The route passes through portions of
Saugus, Lynnfield, and Wakefield,
Massachusetts, to serve various points on
Tennessee’s New England system. To
minimize impact from construction, the
route makes use of existing utility right of
way wherever practicable. Tennessee’s
construction efforts will meet or exceed all
applicable local, state, and federal
regulatory safety requirements and
environmental regulations.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued a certificate of public convenience and necessity in July 2006, which provided approval for the project. Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2007. The estimated in-service date is the fourth quarter of 2007.
Tennessee has been a part of the Massachusetts community for more than 50 years.
The success of this project will continue to build upon Tennessee’s long tradition of
providing reliable energy service in the state. The Essex-Middlesex Project supports
Tennessee’s commitment to serve growing markets with safe and reliable deliveries of
natural gas.
