Project Facilities
The Elba Express pipeline provides interstate transportation services and delivers gas to existing local distribution companies, to electric generation facilities, to large industrial plants, and into Southern's existing pipeline system and Transcos existing pipeline system where the gas can be redelivered to markets in Georgia and the southeastern and eastern US. The primary source of the natural gas comes from the Elba Island liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal near Savannah, Georgia. The terminal is owned by Southern LNG. The facilities at Elba Island vaporize the LNG and inject the natural gas into the Elba Express pipeline. The line became operational on March 1, 2010. The specific facilities to be constructed as part of the Elba Express Pipeline Project are:
