Project Description

Southern Natural Gas Company (Southern) has constructed a new interstate natural gas pipeline, Elba Express, from a point of interconnection with Southern near Port Wentworth, Chatham County, Georgia, to points of interconnection with Transco Pipeline on the east and west sides of the Savannah River in Anderson County, South Carolina and Hart County, Georgia. The pipeline placed in-service in March, 2010, consists of approximately 190 miles of 42-inch and 36-inch diameter, natural gas pipeline. An additional compressor station is expected to be constructed later, to increase capacity in 2014 or 2015.

The pipeline is designed to help meet the current and future gas requirements of markets in Georgia and the southeast and east. Elba Express will provide supply diversity for gas consumers in these markets and increase gas supply access and reliability in these areas. In addition, the pipeline will enable gas suppliers of Southern's LNG facility near Savannah to deliver incremental gas supplies into these markets. The Elba Express Pipeline will have the ability to flow gas bidirectionally from Elba to Southern and/or Transco, from Southern to Transco, and from Transco to Southern.
