FERC Involvement In Southern's Elba III Project

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is the lead federal agency responsible for authorizing the Elba III Project under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). On February 1, 2006, the FERC assigned pre-filing Docket No. PF06-14-000 to the Elba III Project. Interested parties who wish to correspond with FERC about this project should refer to this docket number. Southern Natural Gas has received permission from FERC to participate in the NEPA pre-filing process which is intended to identify and address project issues as early as possible in the planning and approval effort. Comments provided to the FERC under this process will be addressed by the FERC in its project evaluation.

The FERC plans to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for its project evaluation. As part of the EIS process, FERC will host a series of meetings designed to provide an opportunity for public review and comment about the project. FERC will determine the dates for these meetings and place notices of the meetings in local newspapers.
