El Paso’s Mark Leland Named Best CFO of the Year
On May 18, the Houston Business Journal (HBJ) named El Paso Corporation’s executive vice president and chief financial officer Mark Leland the Best CFO of the Year in the large public company category. The HBJ program recognizes financial professionals who "keep track of the American dream."
According to HBJ, Leland was selected for his outstanding performance in the group of companies that included Universal Compression Holdings, Petrohawk Energy, Powell Industries and V&M Star. Under Leland’s financial guidance and leadership, El Paso Corporation returned to profitability in 2006 for the first time since 2000, a major step toward the company’s long-term goal of being the company to own.
Because this was the inaugural event for the program, Leland was the first CFO in the Houston-metro area to win this award. Leland commented, "I'm accepting this award on behalf of all the talented, dedicated Team El Paso members in the company's Finance and Accounting organization."
