Tackling Greenhouse Emissions
In 2006, we became the first natural gas company in the United States to join the California Climate Action Registry, a distinguished group of organizations demonstrating leadership by voluntarily taking action on climate change. We wil work with the Registry to track, report, and certify our greenhouse gas (GHG) emission nationwide each year.
"El Paso is leading its industry by participating in the Registry, and will also play an important role in helping develop our GHG accounting standards for the natural gas transmission and distribution sector," said Diane Wittenberg, president of the California Climate Action Registry. We're also a best performer in the Enviornmental Protection Agency's Natural Gas STAR program. The program is a voluntary partnership that encourages companies to adopt cost-effective technologies and practices to reduce methane emissions. We reported cumulative methane reductions as of 2005 of more than 55 billion cubic feet, equal to removing 4 million cars from the road for one year.
