bu El Paso CEO receives NECO’s Ellis Island Medal of Honor

El Paso President and CEO, Doug Foshee, was awarded an Ellis Island Medal of Honor on May 12, 2007. In ceremonies held in and around New York City, the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO) presented Foshee the award for his continuing support of the Houston community.

The National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations, Inc., is a non-profit organization serving as an umbrella group for more than 250 organizations that celebrate, educate and nurture ethnic pride, heritage, culture, tradition and commerce. The Ellis Island Medals of Honor are awarded annually to a group of distinguished American citizens.

NECO President Maurice Buckley said, “Mr. Foshee was selected because he exemplifies a life dedicated to community service in Texas.” In particular, Buckley noted Foshee’s service and energy in helping children succeed, and his leadership role in the business community.

Foshee serves on the boards of Small Steps Nurturing Center— an accredited early childhood program serving economically at-risk children two years old through Kindergarten—Children’s Museum of Houston, Goodwill Industries of Houston, and the Texas Business Hall of Fame Foundation. Foshee is a member of the Council of Overseers for the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management at Rice University and Rice University’s board of trustees. He also serves on the boards of directors of Central Houston, the Greater Houston Partnership and The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Houston Branch.
