Project Information

As currently designed, the Arizona Natural Gas Storage project will consist of four caverns capable of storing approximately 3.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas. The facility will be able to deliver approximately 350 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, enough to generate electricity for about 735,000 homes daily. The storage caverns will connect with EPNG's existing underground pipeline system. This connection will require only seven to nine miles of new pipeline construction.

El Paso expects to file an application for this project with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in late 2007 or early 2008 and will begin construction only after FERC has received public comments, reviewed, and approved the project application. Once El Paso receives FERC's approval and all other federal, state, and local regulatory approvals, cavern construction could begin in 2008. The company estimates the first cavern will be in service in mid-2011 and remaining caverns will be in service in 2011-2012. Click here for a printable project description.
