Arizona Gas Storage
El Paso Natural Gas Company (EPNG), a subsidiary of
El Paso Corporation, proposes to build the Arizona Natural
Gas Storage project, an underground natural gas storage
facility designed to safely enhance energy supply in Arizona.
The facility, which will be located about 40 miles southeast of
Phoenix near the town of Eloy, will provide a local and easily
accessible supply of natural gas to meet the existing peak
day and load growth needs for power plants and heating
requirements for local gas distribution companies across
Arizona.
As a major operator of natural gas storage in the United
States, El Paso safely and successfully manages storage
facilities across the United States to meet demand in major
consumption areas. El Paso is committed to maintaining this
record during construction and operation of the Arizona Natural
Gas Storage project. The project will meet or exceed all applicable
local, state, and federal regulatory safety and environmental
requirements. It will include state-of-the-art safety features such
as remote emergency shutdown capabilities, below surface shutoff valves, gas-leak detection and alarms, and fire detection
and alarms. This focus on safety will ensure that El Paso’s
Arizona Natural Gas Storage project contributes to the underground
gas storage industry’s 90-year history of safe operations.
The industry has maintained that outstanding record over the
decades due to rigorous design, construction, operation, and
maintenance procedures.
El Paso Natural Gas is a good neighbor in Arizona, providing
natural gas service to communities across the state for more
than 70 years. Continuing that tradition, EPNG will seek
community input throughout the development of the Arizona
Natural Gas Storage Project. This project is just one example of
El Paso’s corporate-wide commitment to serve growing markets
with safe and reliable natural gas.
