Arizona's Energy Needs
The planned gas storage facility would enable as much as an additional 3.5 billion cubic feet of supply to be readily available to our customers in Arizona and other western markets, and it will enhance the amount of gas that we can currently provide to our customers via our existing pipeline systems.
With a working inventory of approximately 3.5 billion cubic feet of supply and 350 million cubic feet per day of deliverability, the Arizona Gas Storage Project will enhance energy security for Arizona and the region by providing an in-the-ground supply of readily available natural gas — i.e., a physical hedge that can mitigate supply and price volatility during times of peak demand.
Quick Facts
- The project's 350 MMcfd of deliverability would provide enough natural gas to serve the daily summer cooling requirements of about 735,000 Arizona homes.
- The project's working inventory of approximately 3.5 Bcf of natural gas represents enough supply to serve about five days of total Arizona winter requirements (based on 2004 consumption data).
El Paso and El Paso Natural Gas are committed to Arizona. El Paso continually assesses ways to best serve its customers and the marketplace. Natural gas storage is one way to provide readily available energy when needed to meet growing demand in Arizona. Our commitment includes making significant capital expenditures for natural gas storage, including the current project in Pinal County, and determining how this project can best serve Arizonans and the region. |
