Across our operations, El Paso is committed to protecting the environment and the health and
safety of our employees, customers, contractors, and the public. Toward that end, our leadership
team provides oversight and direction for our environmental strategies and practices. We track and
report our impacts to the environment. We also conduct our existing operations and develop new
projects to meet the highest environmental standards, and use best practices in environmental
remediation to clean up and revitalize legacy assets and sites.
In 2010, our Pipeline Group continued the largest buildout of pipeline expansions in our company’s
history. As part of that effort, we began construction on our Ruby Pipeline, which will connect
clean-burning and competitively priced natural gas reserves in the Rocky Mountain region with
growing markets in the western United States. We expect Ruby Pipeline, which will be the first
interstate natural gas pipeline in U.S. history to be carbon-neutral for construction and operations-related
GHG emissions, to be in service during the summer of 2011.
El Paso’s E&P Company continued to grow both production and reserves in an environmentally
responsible manner. At the same time, E&P is increasing our presence in the unconventional
resource plays that are helping reshape natural gas supply, providing long-term, abundant,
domestic supplies for future generations and dramatically reducing our reliance on foreign sources
of energy.
Leadership Oversight
From our Board of Directors to our employees, our team is actively engaged in leading our
environmental, health, and safety performance, practices, and policies, including climate change
policies and practices.
Board Commitment
The HS&E Committee of our Board of Directors consists of four independent members of our Board
who review and provide oversight of our environmental policies, standards, accountabilities, and
programs, including the company’s greenhouse gas emissions inventory and reduction program.
The HS&E Committee advises the Board of Directors and makes recommendations to the Board
on issues related to the environment, including GHG issues. For more information about El Paso’s
Board HS&E Committee, including its charter and a list of its members, please visit our Web site’s Investor
Relations section.
Executive Commitment
In addition to the Board HS&E Committee, El Paso has an Environmental, Health, and Safety
(EH&S) executive team that provides oversight of environmental matters, including climate-related
issues. This team is made up of seven members of El Paso’s senior management. Also at the executive level, senior vice presidents of Operations
from our Pipeline Group and E&P Company provide
oversight of our HS&E compliance policies and programs.
In addition, both our Pipeline Group and our
E&P Company have senior leadership steering committees
that direct HS&E activities established within each
business unit.
